NANCY BEST FOUNTAIN

THE CLIENT

The Nancy Best Fountain, a feature of Klyde Warren Park, is a public space for families to relax and kids to play. Uniquely, guests are allowed and even encouraged to interact with the fountain, which has a splash pad specific to this purpose.

At night, the area becomes not just a lounging area, but a performance as well. Music begins to play--and the rise and fall of the fountain syncs with it.

THE PROJECT

Did you notice the speakers at first? If the answer is no, then that's great! When Lantek AVC installed the audio system for Nancy Best Fountain, it did it with the ambition to make the technology as efficient and as visually appealing as possible. In a park, visually appealing technology means unnoticeable technology--so we installed just that. Every speaker, every subwoofer and every microphone was placed in such a way that it was out-of-view, but also, capable of projecting audio throughout the entirety of the park. The project included line array speakers, many of which were hidden within the trees--and all of which synced music with the timing of the fountain. When Nancy Best Fountain hosts an event, the water lowers whenever the music dies down, and shoots upwards whenever the music rises back up. The music is a crucial part of the show--and the audio system providing it is almost entirely out of sight.
